If you are looking for dozens upon dozens of hashtags to use on Instagram for your dog account, look no further. I’ve compiled a list of some of the top performing, most used, and breed specific dog hashtags on the platform. Now one thing to remember is that you want to keep the hashtags related to the post. So if you are shooting indoors, don’t use your hiking hashtag set.
Instagram only allows 30 hashtags per post and you can do these in the caption or as the first comment. Many people I have spoken to haven’t noticed a difference regardless of where they go so the location is totally up to you. The hashtags on each list can easily be copy and pasted. You can use the entire set or mix up a few sets. I aim to only use around 25-29 hashtags just to not go over but that is also entirely up to you.

Find Hashtags
When looking for hashtags to use, I recommend checking the explore page. Seeing the posts that make it there and looking at the hashtags the accounts are using. Take them and create a list on your notepad on your phone. Being able to see them and see how many times the same ones are used among different accounts will help you to see which ones are used often. This can also help you to see which ones might get your to rank. Especially helpful if your posts are similar to any photos that make it to the explore page.
Of course you don’t want to use #doodle or #labrador if you are posting a photo of your German Shepherd. Nobody will engage and then the Instagram algorithm won’t likely push that image to others. This is because Instagram likes to push content to those who see it and engage. If everyone scrolls past it without engaging, that’s not going to help your account.
Where to Put Them & Maximum Amount to Use
Instagram allows you to use up to 30 hashtags. You can put them in either your caption or immediately after you post as the first comment. Be ready to post immediately after though if you opt to put them as the first comment.
Another thing to note is to not change/edit your post or delete the hashtags within the first 12 hours of posting. This will cause your post to tank. This is due to the fact that Instagram will then update the post on the server.
Best Tools to Use
The main tools I use are display purposes for finding hashtags and www.hashtagshuffle.com for getting up to 30 chosen to add to my post. I can input up to 300 hashtags and it’ll select 30 for me. I can always opt for under 30 too. These websites can help even if you aren’t in the dog niche.
